PANTONE has brewed up its Color of the Year for 2025, and this time it’s serving a cup of comfort and deliciousness with Mocha Mousse (PANTONE 17-1230). The hue is a luscious soft brown that, as the name suggests, feels like wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket of cocoa, chocolate, and coffee.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the PANTONE Color Institute, describes Mocha Mousse as both sophisticated and unpretentious—a reminder that brown isn’t just grounded and humble but can also be aspirational and luxurious. She adds that the color’s sensorial warmth makes it a perfect blend of refinement and comfort, bringing a touch of glamor while remaining earthy and approachable.
“Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” notes Eiseman. “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace the aspirational and luxe. Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. A flavorful brown shade, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”

PANTONE chose Mocha Mousse to reflect a growing cultural movement toward reconnecting with nature and valuing simple comforts. This evocative hue honors that sense of balance—embracing both the grounding nature of the earth and the aspirational elements of a modern lifestyle.
Laurie Pressman, vice president of the PANTONE Color Institute, explains that this year’s selection is all about harmony—between ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. “With that in mind, for Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a color that reaches into our desire for comfort and wellness, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”
For the first time in its 26 years of Color of the Year, PANTONE will highlight its chosen shade through events around the world, creating public experiences from New York and London to Shanghai and Mumbai. The idea is to make Mocha Mousse accessible to everyone, not just as a color, but as an experience. The celebration kicks off in London, with a spectacular unveiling at the lastminute.com London Eye. The iconic landmark will light up the night sky in Mocha Mousse on December 5 at 6 p.m. GMT, turning this cozy brown into a dazzling visual statement for all to enjoy.
