Two decades after their first mashup made waves, Takashi Murakami’s kaleidoscopic vision blooms again across Louis Vuitton’s latest collection.

The extensive anniversary collaboration, which launched on New Year’s Day, reimagines Murakami’s original designs with enhanced technical precision. The Japanese artist’s signature multicolored interpretation of Louis Vuitton’s monogram now appears in 33 distinct hues, adorning everything from classic handbags to skateboards.

Modern printing techniques give new life to beloved patterns that first appeared in 2003 under Marc Jacobs’ creative direction. The collection spans more than 200 items, including updated versions of the Keepall, Capucines, and Speedy bags, alongside accessories, leather goods, and even perfume bottles decorated with Murakami’s whimsical Superflat Garden flowers.

The artist’s distinctive style, which merges traditional Japanese aesthetics with anime and kawaii culture, appears throughout the collection. His playful LV Hands logo graces the Alma BB bags and silk scarves, while his Superflat Panda design shows up on sneakers and skateboards. The Cherry Blossom motif adds a delicate touch to Papillon bags, platform sandals, and the Courrier Lozine 110 Fleurs trunk.

To celebrate the launch, Louis Vuitton has created immersive popup experiences in major cities: New York, Milan, London, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Singapore.

At the Singapore location visited by DesignTAXI, the brand has transformed a historic shophouse in the UNESCO-recognized, Peranakan heritage road of Joo Chiat into a multifaceted space featuring retail areas, a cinema, a care station, and a café, with design elements inspired by Tokyo's modular hotels.

The collection will roll out in two phases, with the initial release beginning January 1, 2025. A second chapter, focusing on Murakami's spring-themed Cherry Blossom pattern, will follow in March 2025.
