LEGO takes a leaf—and several petals—out of Vincent van Gogh’s canvases once again. Following their Starry Night collaboration, the toymaker and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam have teamed up a second time to release the LEGO Art Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers set, a 2,615-piece kit that lets the Dutch artist’s iconic painting come abloom in brick form.

Of note is how the beloved artist’s signature brushstrokes and impasto technique have been recreated in plastic, offering art lovers a hands-on way to appreciate one of the most recognizable works in history.

Designed with input from curators at the Van Gogh Museum, the Sunflower model mirrors the vivid yellows and expressive textures of the 1889 masterpiece. The set features 16 sunflowers with adjustable petals, a removable frame, and a tile inscribed with Van Gogh’s signature. Builders will layer bricks to emulate the thick applications of paint seen in the original, culminating in a three-dimensional representation measuring 41 cm (16.14 inches) by 54 cm (21.3 inches).

To add color to the experience, LEGO is releasing a companion podcast in partnership with the Van Gogh Museum. Launching on March 1, 2025, this auditory special will feature Senior curator Nienke Bakker and LEGO designer Stijn Oom, who will discuss the painting’s artistic significance and the intricate process of transforming it into a LEGO set.
LEGO designer Stijn Oom shares that reimagining such an iconic painting was both a challenge and a privilege—a “dream come true.”
“We collaborated closely with the Van Gogh Museum and its experts, delving into the details to meticulously craft a 3D version of the original artwork,” Oom expresses. “One of the most challenging yet crucial aspects was translating the impasto effect into LEGO bricks while preserving the painting’s asymmetrical yet balanced composition. We are incredibly proud of the result and hope our fans enjoy building it as much as we enjoyed bringing Van Gogh’s masterpiece to life.”

A subtle but thoughtful detail includes a replicated wooden strip on the frame’s back, echoing a structural adjustment made by Van Gogh himself.
