OpenAI aims to put the human touch in artificial intelligence with its first-ever rebranding effort. The redesign, created alongside Dutch graphic design firm Studio Dumbar/DEPT, seeks to present a more approachable and fluid visual identity, moving away from rigid, mechanical aesthetics. With subtle tweaks to its iconic emblem and the introduction of OpenAI Sans, the company is emphasizing a balance between technology and human-inspired design.
The updated logo remains familiar but now features a slightly more open central space and smoother, flowing lines.

Talking to Wallpaper magazine, designers Veit Moeller and Shannon Jager describe these refinements as an effort to create a “more organic and more human” look, reflecting OpenAI’s mission to make AI more accessible. The typography also plays a central role in this transformation, with OpenAI Sans incorporating geometric precision while maintaining a warm and inviting character.
Color is another key component of the rebrand. The revised palette leans on cool grays and blues, meant to evoke open skies and expansive horizons. Contrasting primary hues have been added for emphasis, helping to guide the eye and create a sense of clarity.
The design team also introduced the Emotive Point, a pulsing disc emblem set against a swirling blue backdrop, intended as an abstract, non-human visual cue for AI.
While AI itself wasn’t responsible for crafting the redesign, it did play a supporting role. OpenAI’s in-house tools helped calculate aspects like type weight and proportions, blending human intuition with machine efficiency. This collaboration, if you can call it that, reflects an ongoing push to integrate AI seamlessly into creative processes and daily life while maintaining a “human” touch.
