IKEA Highlights Its Furniture As Baby Sidekicks For Taking Their First Steps

Some of the most memorable milestones in life happen just a few inches off the ground. Al-Futtaim IKEA—alongside advertising agency INGO Hamburg—is leaning into that idea with its latest campaign, Supporting First Steps, where it turns its everyday furniture into quiet co-stars in one of parenting’s proudest moments: when babies learn to walk.

Inspired by the viral “baby cruising” trend on TikTok, where toddlers use furniture to balance and wobble toward independence, the campaign shines a spotlight on the unsung household items that help make those first steps possible.

Rather than push products to the foreground, the campaign takes a gentler approach, showing how pieces like the BEKVÄM step stool, LACK side table, and KALLAX shelving unit are often part of the scene during these milestone moments.

Turns out, IKEA is already there, playing a background role in real family life.

The visuals, shot by photographer Ale Burset, feature authentic family moments, complemented by user-generated footage sourced from parents who’ve shared their toddlers’ first steps online.

Supporting First Steps focuses not on features or price tags, but on emotional connection—on furniture not just as utility, but as steady, supportive witnesses to growth. The products may not be the hero of the story, but they’re part of the setting where memories are created.
