Biden Administration Looks To Start ‘Bill Of Rights’ For Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is progressing rapidly, from robots being used to speed up work to hands-free driving systems, and even virus predicting models. With how fast this sector of technology is growing, could it be time for more laws to be drawn up around it?
According to Mashable, the Joe Biden administration has expressed its intention to closely monitor the far-reaching impact of AI, and could be gearing up to introduce a Bill to keep its uses in check.
It’s not uncommon to read a story about a new AI system causing someone harm in the real world. There have been reports of Amazon’s delivery cameras falsely punishing drivers for “unsafe” behavior, the multiple crashes Tesla drivers have been involved in, and worse still—Facebook’s algorithm labeling Black men as “primates.”
Now, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy has officially requested public information from experts working with or making use of AI. However, as with passing any Bill, the White House is certain it’s bound to be an uphill challenge, especially with how fast the industry changes.
Nonetheless, with how ubiquitous technologies such as AI are becoming in people’s lives—household robots, anyone?—it’s high time authorities would begin to safeguard the interests of those who don’t understand all the jargon.
