Apple’s MacBook Pro Notch Puzzlingly Clashes With Menu Bar In Supposed Glitch

Over a week ago, Apple unveiled its range of new MacBook Pros, including a heavy-duty 16-inch model with a ‘High Power Mode’.
One of the main topics of discussion following the launch surrounded the laptops’ new notch, which was added in the middle of the menu bar.
Fans speculated if the tech giant would program the menu bar to shrink, appear under, or become scrollable. Turns out, it could be none of those options.
As reported by Mashable, YouTuber Quinn Nelson of Snazzy Lab Media uploaded a video of his brand-new MacBook Pro, but it wasn’t a raving review. Instead of allowing users to access the menu bar more easily, the menu items were hidden behind the notch instead.

This means that if the menu or status bar stretches beyond its designated space, users will no longer be able to see it, though a dropdown menu still appears should a mouse be hovering over the notch.
Commenters said the glitch could be due to the app he was using, iStat Menus, though developers have said they have followed Apple’s guidelines.
In a follow-up video, Nelson showed that, instead of being hidden under the notch, older apps such as DaVinci Resolve manage to ignore it. This could signal that the issue has more to do with particular apps than with Apple itself.
However, he isn’t the only one getting frustrated with the new status bar. Designer Sam Henri-Gold posted an image of a pretty lonely “help” menu icon left stranded on the right side of the notch, separated from all the other options.
While Apple has yet to comment on these supposed mishaps, though they probably will be addressed soon as more users receive their new MacBook Pros in the coming weeks.
