Apple Adds ‘High Power Mode’ To 16-Inch MacBook Pro For Emergency Boosts

Previously, insiders spotted in Apple’s beta macOS Monterey software that the latest MacBook Pros could come with a ‘High Power Mode’. Now, MacRumors has confirmed that the 16-inch model, which runs on the M1 Max Apple Silicon Chip, will feature the brand-new feature for sustained, high-intensity workloads.
The new setting is said to be the opposite of ‘Low Power Mode’, which decreases a MacBook’s performance to conserve battery life when it’s not plugged into a power source.
However, it will not be available on the 14-inch model, or models using the M1 Pro Chip.
With the new feature enabled, a message would appear to read: “Your Mac will optimize performance to better support resource-intensive tasks. This may result in louder fan noise.”
As 9to5Mac posited, this could mean the MacBook Pro will run at maximum performance, with fans switched on to prevent thermal throttling.
For creatives, the feature could come in handy when you need to complete intense tasks in a time crunch, as rendering large files or working with tons of graphics often require more power. Plus, the new mode will help boost performance even when the laptop isn’t connected to a power source.
In addition to the upgraded processing chips, the new MacBook Pros will come with HDMI and SD card slots, as well as the usual three USB-C / Thunderbolt ports. Read more about Apple’s latest release here.
