The lions will walk free after hibernating at home for the past couple of years. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2022 will finally be a physical event, returning to its usual site at the French Riviera.
The festival was canceled after untoward circumstances driven by the global COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. Having adapted since then, Cannes decided to conduct this year’s event online.
The format of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2022 will evolve into—as the tired phrase expresses it best—one of a new normal. While the main event will be in-person, Cannes will draw from its learnings in the previous years and incorporate a few virtual elements here, Campaign reports.
The initial judging process by jurors will take place remotely. They’ll then gather at the official venue for the “final stages,” says Susie Walker, vice-president of awards and insight at the Cannes Festival.
The Lions Membership digital platform with online masterclasses, launched during the pandemic in 2020, will live, as well.
In addition, the upcoming event is planned to be the most sustainable Cannes Festival ever.
“We can’t wait to reunite the industry and bring the community together once again,” says chairman Philip Thomas. The annual festival will run on June 20 through 24.
