Recent trademark filings indicate that cosmetics giant L’Oréal might just be making an appearance in the metaverse soon, with 10 new entries under the NFT and metaverse categories.
These include the names of some of the company’s subsidiaries, such as Kiehl’s, Maybelline, Essie, and Urban Decay.
Eight of the 10 filings appear to focus around providing some form of digital environment for customers to “browse, accumulate, buy, sell and trade virtual cosmetics.”
CoinDesk notes that the filing under Kiehl’s suggests “non-downloadable virtual perfumery,” as well as potential services like “hair care preparations and cosmetic body care preparations in a virtual environment including a metaverse.”
It hints at some sort of beauty parlor in the metaverse—for avatars, perhaps? It is difficult to imagine how a virtual perfume can be delivered, though.
Given the fact that the metaverse already has things like concert venues and the Golden Arches, these services that have become parts of our routine in real life are bound to begin appearing in the future digital world, too.
Within the same week, it was revealed that the New York Stock Exchange had filed patents to do with similar notions: creating its own NFT marketplace. JPMorgan has been more forthcoming and has already opened a venue in the virtual world.
