DALL-E Removes Waitlist To Open Its Art-Generating AI Tool To All

Despite the ongoing debate surrounding the prevalence of art generated by artificial intelligence, the popular DALL-E has finally opened its doors to the public, allowing anyone to sign up and begin using its services immediately.

Although the system will remain in beta for the time being, gone is the incredibly long waitlist. Users signing up from today will be charged the same price as before, which is US$15 for 115 credits. Each credit allows users to use one text prompt, which will deliver four images.

Announcing its launch in a blog post, developer OpenAI says there are already 1.5 million users tapping on the art generator to create over 2 million images per day, with over 100,000 users active on its Discord community.

“Responsibly scaling a system as powerful and complex as DALL-E—while learning about all the creative ways it can be used or misused—has required an iterative deployment approach,” says the firm. 

The site reports that it has moved to strengthen its existing filters, which have been programmed to reject any images emulating sexual, violent, or political content; along with new detection and response techniques to halt any misuse. 

At the moment, the company is testing a DALL-E API with a select group of customers, and will soon offer it to developers and businesses looking to tap on its system to build new and exciting applications. 

“We can’t wait to see what users from around the world create with DALL-E,” OpenAI quipped.
