Spotify's Heart Button Takes A Final Bow To Make Way For New Plus Sign Icon

Spotify’s heart icon is singing one last song before it exists the app, and a new symbol takes center stage: the plus sign. The change, albeit minor, is the music streaming platform’s way of streamlining its app. 

For those who use Spotify, pressing the heart was the only way to add songs to your ‘Liked Songs’ folder. The new plus sign, however, takes over that function and will now also allow users to instantly add music directly into different playlists without needing the three buttons to bring you to a secondary menu.

After using the new icon, you can tap it once again to add a song to multiple playlists. You can also add books and podcast episodes to your lists. So while the old button is getting the boot, the new one has many more uses that may soften the blow of losing the iconic green heart.

On that note, TechCrunch points out that the heart symbol has become synonymous online with liking something. A change like this may be minuscule in the grand scheme of things, but it might also throw people off initially by not having it there. Though, with all its new functions, the plus sign makes more sense, as the its main purpose is to add content to your library.

This change is not the only new addition to the app as recently Spotify has introduced an AI ‘DJ’ that will talk you through your music recommendations, and it’s also bringing NFT-gated playlists for crypto fans to listen to.

So will the change be welcomed, or will it leave fans heartbroken? Either way, the show goes on, right?
