‘Low Hanging Fruit’ Fragrance Wants To Be The Last Novelty-Scented Candle

From candles that smell like a jar of pickles to IKEA’s meatball-scented iteration and Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous “vagina” fragrance—novelty candles may have run their course. At least that’s what creative agency WorkInProgress thinks, as it debuts what it hopes will be the last of such.

Cleverly dubbed the ‘Low Hanging Fruit’ candle, the home décor addition reminds everyone that no brand needs to release its 30th novelty-scented candle, and advertisers across the globe should avoid going for, well, the low-hanging fruit.

For the curious, this particular candle smells of fig, paired with the floral earthiness of black currant. The agency offers, rather cheekily, that the fragrance doesn’t give off whiffs of special scents brands have come up with in the past, including beer, cheeseburgers, or a new car.

“If you’ve been thinking of pitching a product-scented candle for your client, you’re not alone. Every year, thousands of very creative people reach for the same low-hanging fruit,” reads the item’s description.

“But when so many candles are selling their scents for the fleeting validation of a press release, here is a candle to inspire you to do better. One that gently caresses your olfactory receptors and whispers, ‘it’s been done.’”

All proceeds from the candle, which is actually for sale in limited quantities, will go toward a Denver Ad School scholarship, so up-and-coming creative talent can “create more original ideas.” Touché. Head to stopmakingcandles.com to find out more.
