Over the weekend, Munich’s IAA Mobility trade show was abuzz with an eye-catching spectacle from Porsche: a sprawling outdoor display featuring a colossal sculpture shaped like the iconic 911.
Right smack in the center of the Open Space plaza sat a giant 911, which served as a “tent” for the festival, taking the shape of a wheel-less 911 to house activities from the fair and to keep visitors safe from the summer sun. The structure also pays homage to the first time the 911 made its debut at the IAA 60 years ago.
“The 911 is famous worldwide for its unique silhouette. This sculpture is first and foremost a symbol representing the many stories and experiences of enthusiasts, fans and customers that have shaped the iconic image of the 911 worldwide,” said Ragnar Schulte, Head of Experiential Marketing at Porsche.
Of course, it did more than just act as shelter, as it made for a pretty Instagram-worthy shot. Alternatively, Porsche hostesses were on hand to take instant Polaroid photos.
However, the XXL car wasn’t the only thing on display at the show. Fans of the brand were also treated to engaging presentations taking center stage on an indoor platform. “Brave New Love” offered a glimpse into Porsche’s latest innovations, while “911 Love Stories” joyously celebrated the 911’s remarkable 60-year journey.
Stealing the limelight at the event was the debut of the lightest-ever 911 S/T model, with a limited edition of just 1,963 units. The roadster clocks in a total weight of just 3,056 pounds and blends elements from the GT3 Touring and GT3 RS.
To top it all off, Porsche had the Mission X concept on display, a new creation with a singular ambition: to be the fastest vehicle to conquer the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Visitors could also test drive a fleet of Taycans, immersing themselves in Porsche’s electric future, or try their hand at Porsche’s e-bikes, its more featherlight route into sustainable mobility.
