For Porsche, coming up with experimental concept cars helps lay the groundwork for the future. As such, the luxury automaker recently unveiled its latest hypercar study, ‘Mission X’—taking on the form of a dramatic-looking, battery-powered hypercar.

The two-seat vehicle is the brand’s first all-electric concept, measuring 4.5 meters (14.8 feet) long and two meters (6.6 feet) wide. As a rather compact supercar, it boasts a wheelbase of 2.73 meters (8.96 feet), similar to the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder.

That’s not all. In order to ensure the ultra-sleek vehicle has the best aerodynamic properties, the team decided to opt for mixed-sized tires, fitting the car with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear.

As Porsche put it, while the Mission X showcases the brand as a champion of performance and luxury, its “sculpted form and muscular lines” offer drivers a supercar that doesn’t look as aggressive as a Transformer.

Upon first glance, one will notice the low-slung body—measuring less than 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) tall—coated in an eye-catching ‘Rocket Metallic–. The striking paint color was specially developed just for this concept.

Below the beltline, the vehicle’s design elements are fitted in a carbon-weave finish, varnished in satin to conceal their forms just a little, but with the structures still remaining recognizable to car enthusiasts.

The wheels of the Mission X add even more elaborate details, including the rear axle’s nearly-transparent aeroblades, reminiscent of turbines, to allow for better cooling of the brakes when the car’s hitting its super speeds.

A highlight of the vehicle is the impressive Le Mans-style doors that are attached to the car’s A-pillar and roof. Unlike typical car doors, these open forwards and upwards, an exceptional feature harking back to the legendary Porsche 917 racing car.

In addition, the modernized Porsche crest makes its debut on the concept vehicle. The 3D honeycomb structure shows off the brand’s refreshed heraldic beast, and a subtler gold finish, all created out of brushed precious metal.

The interior of the vehicle isn’t one to skip over, either. Offering an asymmetric concept, the two seats are colored differently, with the driver’s seat clad in Kalahari Gray to form a single unit with the center console and dashboard.

On the other hand, the passenger seat is covered in a contrasting Andalusia Brown, with leather pads in the same color present on both seats. Drivers can experience a whole new way of driving with the open-top steering wheel, complete with mode switches and shift paddles.

“The Mission X is a clear commitment to the core of the brand. The concept study symbolizes a symbiosis of unmistakable motorsport DNA with a luxurious overall impression,” quipped Michael Mauer, Head of Style at Porsche.
