Through the years, Google has called on Apple to adopt Rich Communication Services (RCS)—a messaging protocol that offers to bridge the gap between the two operating systems with better encryption and higher-resolution images.
However, the latter has refused to budge, still choosing to stick with what the former is terming “outdated messaging technology.”
iMessage should not benefit from bullying. Texting should bring us together, and the solution exists. Let’s fix this as one industry. ðð https://t.co/18k8RNGQw4
Previously, Google released several commercials calling on the iOS creator to switch over to RCS, including one that presented Apple’s blue iMessage bubbles as “bullying” and an unofficial lyric explainer video to a Drake song.
Now, the #GetTheMessage campaign is back again, this time with a mockumentary-style advertisement showcasing the iPager—a spoof device depicting how far the company thinks its competitor is lagging behind.
Despite Google’s persistent efforts, it doesn’t seem likely Apple will switch over to RCS anytime soon.
In fact, when asked in September last year, CEO Tim Cook said the move was “not a priority” for the firm and that those having issues texting Android devices should just buy their companions an iPhone.
