If you can’t decide between a McDonald’s sandwich or a heaping serving of brunch at a café, you might finally be able to have a combination of both—and at a pocket-friendly price to boot.
McDonald’s is currently testing a posher ‘McGriddles’ at 200 participating restaurants in Minnesota; it’s in French toast form, and has a more complex taste profile than the original.
The new ‘McGriddles French Toast’ comes with two warm brioche French toast buns that are brushed with sweet syrup, and is stacked with a grade-A freshly cracked egg, hot sausage, thick-cut Applewood bacon and melty American cheese.
While the OG ‘McGriddles’ buns taste primarily of maple syrup, the new menu item embodies the nostalgic flavors of cinnamon, vanilla and spice in its bread.
“You get savory and smoky flavors from the sausage and bacon,” describes McDonald’s chef Mike Lingo in the press release. “Creaminess, cheddar flavors and salt from the American cheese; sweet cinnamon, spice and vanilla flavors from the French toast. It tastes like homemade French toast. It’s everything you love about breakfast in one sandwich.”
The experiment stems from customers’ desire for “a bigger and more filling breakfast option,” says McDonald’s. If all goes well, the chain might make the decadent sandwich, or a variation of it, available nationwide.
