Creepy Robotic Finger Will Caress You When Your Smartphone Has Notifications

A research team in France has developed a robotic finger that allows smartphones to interact with their users.
‘MobiLimb’ is a robotic finger attachment plugged into a phone’s USB port, powered by an Arduino microcontroller and moves by using a few servo motors. The finger can tap its user’s hand to alert him or her on their smartphone notifications. Alternatively, it can be used as a joystick controller.
The ‘MobiLimb’ is a research project spearheaded by PhD student Marc Teyssier and his team of French researchers. Teyssier shared more photos of the process and provides a detailed explanation for the project on his website.
He wrote, “In the spirit of human augmentation, which aims at overcoming human body limitations by using robotic devices, our approach aims at overcoming mobile device limitations (static, passive, motionless) by using a robotic limb.”
