James Gunn Confirmed To Write ‘Suicide Squad 2’ For Marvel’s Rival, DC Comics
By Izza Sofia, 10 Oct 2018
Former director of Guardians of the Galaxy James Gunn will be writing the script for the next installment of DC Comics’ Suicide Squad, according to a Warner Bros.’ confirmation with Polygon.
Gunn was fired by Disney after a series of offensive tweets from yesteryear that resurfaced online. Despite pushbacks from GotG fans and its cast, which supported Gunn’s reinstatement, Disney refused to bring Gunn back on board, leaving production of the Marvel sequel in a deadlock.
For now, Gunn is only writing this next edition in the Suicide Squad franchise, which has not been confirmed as a direct sequel to the first film. According to io9, however, Gunn might be in talks to direct this movie as well.
The move seems like a major win for rival DC Comics and its parent company, Warner Bros. Gunn remains a valuable member in the superhero film world despite his dismissal from Disney.
Could Warner Bros.’ effort to hire Gunn be its ticket to capturing the aesthetics and the financial success of Gunn’s GotG?
