By now, you would be able to recognize the face of Colin Kaepernick. If you haven’t seen the American football ex-quarterback’s momentous kneelings during the US national anthem, you would have come across the copious coverage of his Nike headshot that was snapped by photographer Martin Schoeller.
Considering the now-iconic value of his appearance, Kaepernick and his company Inked Flash felt it was high time to file a trademark to an image of his facial features, which he had recently done.
Registered at the US Patent and Trademark Office on 5 October, the filing encompasses a black-and-white illustration of Kaepernick’s face and afro, with the intent for it to be applied on a multitude of goods and services ranging from toiletries to tech accessories, candy and toys.
The trademark might also be used as branding for “workshops and seminars in self empowerment and awareness.”
Kaepernick’s career manager Carlos Fleming has not responded to queries about the graphic, but be prepared to see more of Kaepernick in the months to come.
