Johnnie Walker’s Iconic ‘Striding Man’ Now Has A Diverse Group Of Friends
By Yoon Sann Wong, 26 Oct 2018
Johnnie Walker’s ‘Striding Man’, who has long been an icon of the Scotch whisky brand, has continuously walked solo for many years, but no more.
Creative agency CP+B Brazil has given the standalone character a diverse group of friends. In this ‘Striding Humans’ campaign, the alcohol brand champions the idea of advancing forward together.
The new silhouettes comprise women, artists, musicians, chefs, and more. The animated visuals see its ‘Striding Man’ leading the charge at times, while he follows suit among his comrades in others.
Guilherme Martins, head of Johnnie Walker’s parent brand Diageo’s whisky portfolio in Brazil, explained that the definition of progress has altered a great deal over the years. With ‘Striding Humans’, Johnnie Walker aims to continue its classic “Keep Walking” tagline, but with a sense of “collective progress.”
“For the first time ever, the Striding Man no longer walks by itself, and is now accompanied by people from all walks of life to help promote progress for one and for all.”
Marcos Medeiros, partner and chief creative officer at CP+B Brazil, added that the campaign aims to counter the “deep divisions” that have surfaced within Brazil in recent years. “We want to show that progress is only possible when we walk together,” echoing a notion that the entire world probably needs to hear more of right now.
Johnnie Walker also recently released its Game of Thrones-inspired ‘White Walker’ special edition for fans of the hit HBO series.
