Samsung’s Collaboration With Supreme Knockoff Riles Streetwear Enthusiasts
By Izza Sofia, 12 Dec 2018
Samsung China has incurred the wrath of hypebeasts worldwide after the company announced its collaboration with a Supreme rip-off.
The tech giant’s declaration had caused confusion because it revealed the partnership being with Supreme, when in reality, it is actually teaming up with Supreme New York City’s rival company, Supreme Italia.
The latter is a “legal fake” brand that beat Supreme NYC in a court case on who can use the brand name in Italy. During a conference in China, Samsung announced the collaboration with “Supreme” and even invited two men, referred to as the brand’s “CEOs,” on stage.
Samsung China’s digital marketing manager Leo Lau responded to the controversy in a now-deleted post on his Weibo account, according to Engadget. Lau commented that Supreme NYC has no authority to sell its products in China, unlike Supreme Italia, which received approval to do business in the country.
Supreme NYC clarified in an interview with HYPEBEAST that the company is neither working together with Samsung nor launching any flagship store in Beijing. A spokesperson for Supreme NYC said the claims are false and propagated by a counterfeit organization.
During the presentation, the “Supreme” CEOs announced that the brand would be opening its first seven-storey flagship store in China come 2019.
Unbelievable for a big brand like #Samsung to cooperate with a #FAKE #supreme to launch their new #GalaxyA8s in #china. Such #marketing #strategy will surely backfired!— Alvin Foo (@alvinfoo) December 10, 2018

When @SamsungItalia & @Samsung Asia are faking the long-term existing fashion brand @Supreme_NYC .
Cheap fake without knowing that in 2k18 people get those fakes real quick.

I Find it funny how @SamsungUS managed to allow fake members and employees of @supremenewyork to announce a fake collaboration between the two companies and also spread false future plans for Supreme’s future in China, like how does that happen? #fuckup #samsung #supreme— Mitchilli (@Mitchilli1) December 10, 2018
