Grown-ups might soon get a new kind of high from enjoying comfort snacks. Mondelēz International—the producer of Oreo, Cadbury, Chips Ahoy, Nutter Butters and Nilla Wafers—is considering debuting confectioneries that are infused with CBD.
According to CNBC, the company is looking to enhance its product line with cannabidiol, which is found in marijuana and hemp.
However, Mondelēz stresses that the ingredient will not be rolled out in its family-friendly products—so, sorry, you won’t be seeing Oreo cookies with CBD-flavored creme fillings in supermarkets in the foreseeable future.
Instead, the compound is expected to be inserted in other snacks or spearhead a whole product range.
Brands have been lacing edibles in their edibles since US president Donald Trump legalized most products containing the ingredient. Most recently, Carl’s Jr. debuted a CBD burger for 4/20.
It’s worth noting that the snacks aren’t likely to give you a high, though. Unlike THC, which is also found in cannabis, CBD is non-psychoactive.
