Kickstarter Campaign Promising Absolutely ‘Nothing’ Raises Nearly US$8,000
By Izza Sofia, 29 May 2019
A new Kickstarter project is raising funds for packages containing ‘Nothing’, but it has received its fair share of fans due to its beautiful designs and backstory.
For those who pledged US$15 to the campaign, ‘Nothing’ promises funders a piece of “boutique stationery” perfect for “the person who has everything.” Currently, it has raised nearly US$8,000 since time of publish.
‘Nothing’ is a custom-made envelope designed by Jason Markow, known for creating wall art for celebrities.
The artist worked over 10 months to create 11 prototypes for ‘Nothing’, with each envelope numbered and crafted using heavy-craft paper. Each of the designs also boast a wax seal, holographic sticker and a hand-embossed seal.
According to Markow, the idea of this commercial project, coined as “modern-day Dadaism,” came about after he was diagnosed with the incurable Interstitial Lung Disease.
When he asked his doctor what could be done to succumb it, her response was simply, “nothing.” The reply inspired him to create this project, as he wanted to reclaim “the power of the word ‘nothing.’”
The empowering message behind this minimal project might be why it has raised nearly double of its US$4,000 goal.
