In a world where dating often starts from an app, physical traits are surprisingly secondary to what women search for in a partner.
The discovery was made in a survey of 68,000 female participants across 180 countries. Conducted by menstrual cycle tracking app Clue, MyONE Condoms and the University of Göttingen, the research delves into the exact traits most desired by women around the world.
“Kindness” was found to be the most attractive characteristic, as 88.9-percent of women agreed it was essential in a partner. The quality is followed by “supportiveness” (86.5 percent) and “intelligence” (72.3 percent).
Lead researcher and Kinsey Institute senior scientist Virginia J. Vitzthum likens kindness to “gravity”—it’s “essential but little-noticed until it’s gone.” She explains that while the top desirable trait shared by women across the world might surprise many, kindness is, after all, “key to the human capacity for forming the long-term social bonds so essential to our evolution.”
An “attractive body” is only thought to be important by 22.3 percent of people surveyed. Additionally, an “attractive face, ambition, assertiveness, and financial security,” are only deemed by participants as “moderately important.”
If you’re still curious about which physical features women like the most, it turns out that no matter their sexual preference, females are predominantly drawn to an “attractive smile and attractive eyes.”
Most straight women favor an average-sized penis too, which they think is “considerably” more attractive than a large one. They also tend to seek out partners with “short hair, large hands, an attractive back, muscular arms and facial hair.”
Participants who identify as “lesbian, gay or homosexual” are most drawn to average-sized breasts, average buttocks, a nice back, and long hair respectively.
Fret not if you haven’t attained that beach body you thought everyone wanted. Across the globe, only 2.5-percent of women seek out “very muscular” bodies in long-term mates. In fact, 44.8 percent lean towards “average” types, though 34.8 percent have voted on a “fit and athletic” silhouette.
All told, as long as you’re a kind person, you’ve already won most of the game.
