Some call them “blink one-eighty-two,” while others say “blink one-eight-two.” At last, blink-182 fans have been given the answer after decades.
In an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Mark Hoppus and Matt Skiba, who took the place of former bandmate Tom DeLonge, revealed the right way to enunciate blink-182.
The two divulged that the group’s moniker is vocalized as “one-eighty-two” when using American English. However, when it addresses people from Australia or UK, the band goes by “one-eight-two.”
At the end the day, the right pronunciation boils down to the “English/American pronunciation of numbers,” the bandmates confirm.
In November 2018, Hoppus corrected late night host James Corden about the right way to say the band’s name. As Corden went on to defend his logic behind pronouncing the band name as “Blink one hundred and eighty two,” Hoppus pointed out that the ‘b’ in the band’s name should actually be in lower-case, so it seems like the important detail lies more in the ‘b’ than the numerals.
Thank you James. Some say one eighty two. Some say one eight two. But in all of this, I feel like we’ve lost sight of the fact that the B in blink-182 should be lower-case. https://t.co/d3Gi2Ezmhu— spooky jim christmas. (@markhoppus) November 19, 2018
