When the first Sonic the Hedgehog trailer came out in May, the internet was mortified by the look of everyone’s favorite video game character and they weren’t exactly quiet about it.
Many pointed out the hyperrealistic set of teeth that resembled too much like a human’s and pair of eyes that were too small for his face.
Critics chimed in one after another, including the originator of Sonic the Hedgehog himself, driving Paramount Pictures to go back to the drawing board to recreate a less horrifying version of the blue anthropomorphic hedgehog.
Six months later, the beloved animated hedgehog has received a complete-glow up, which has pleased even Sonic purists. However, the internet has its way of turning anything into a comedy gold.
Now, the two film versions of the hedgehog have become a meme, and social media users are even resonating with them.
For example, people have joked that the new-and-improved Sonic represents what someone would order online, while the roughened prior version of the character resembles what they are more likely to receive in the mail.
Some have brought back Marie Kondo’s “Konmari” method to the internet, likening the former iteration to be pre-Konmari and the current to show what might happen after a little Kondo magic.
Take a look at the internet’s finest memes of the new Sonic the Hedgehog character design below.
