Thoughts and prayers to Facebook, Instagram, and their users, who were forced to delay their social media dedications and were made to have eye contact with their relatives when the social networks crashed on Thanksgiving.
Real-time outage reporter Down Detector noted that the crash occured at around 6am PT, affecting Facebook-owned services such as Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook itself. The apps resumed running in the afternoon.
A Facebook representative told CNET that the company had issues with one of its central software systems.
The social media company was not the only one experiencing outages. Costco’s site also faced issues when it went down in wake of its Black Friday deals.
Instagram confirmed its inaccessibility in a tweet, but shortly sent out another post confirming that the app was back online.
We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps, including Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. #InstagramDown— Instagram (@instagram) November 28, 2019
