It’s the end of an era for the iconic Beetle, which is retiring after 70 years.
Volkswagen has decided to give the Bug a proper send-off by producing an emotional ad that illustrates what it means to its many fans as well as its influence in pop culture.
Famous faces like Andy Warhol, Kevin Bacon, and Andy Cohen make a cameo in the touching spot.
Volkswagen spotlights Bacon’sFootloose character driving a yellow Beetle, while Cohen shows up in the ad because he’s a fan of the vehicle. The short isn’t complete without Warhol, who featured Volkswagen’s advertising extensively in his work.
Perhaps its most memorable appearance in pop culture is in The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover, in which the car is parked illegally in the background. Quite aptly, the animation is set to a rendition of The Beatles’ classic Let it Be by the Pro Musica Youth Chorus.
Bid farewell to the Beetle as it runs its last mile by catching the animation below.
