There are a number of ways to grab your followers’ attention with your Instagram stories. You can play around with the app’s cool hidden features or incorporate some neat art into the disappearing posts, for instance. However, all these tricks could go to waste if your photos aren’t sharp.
Images typically get compressed when you upload them on social media, and the Instagram stories tool is no different. A helpful video by technologist Sam Sheffer shows that there is an easy way to retain the quality of your photos, without any third-party tools, for your Instagram stories.
Sheffer shares that when photos are imported to Instagram stories through the Instagram app, they instantly get magnified to fill the whole screen. The trick to keeping your photos sharp is by cropping them yourself to a 9:16 ratio through your camera roll.
Sheffer demonstrates four other hacks in the four-minute tutorial, including making your text rainbow, making collages in your stories, turning live photos into Boomerangs, and creating a faux ‘Magic Eraser’ effect. To get to the part about retaining your photos’ quality, skip to the 2:35 mark.
