Men are dipping their scrotums in soya sauce in the latest bizarre TikTok trend, thanks to a study establishing that testicles have taste receptors.
Back in 2013, the Monell Chemical Senses Center published a study suggesting a relationship between taste receptors and fertility in mice.
The report revealed that apart from the tongue, taste receptors can be found on other parts of the body including the intestines, bladder and testicles.
The research was rediscovered by TikTok user Regan, who challenged fellow male users to “dip their balls for science.”
User Alx James posted a video where he basted his sack with soy sauce while sitting with takeout in his car. He was inspired by the study that claimed “amino acids inside soy sauce can also be detected by the balls.”
James thought his experiment was a success, declaring that he could “taste the salt.” His video went viral and racked up over 800,000 likes.
Another social media user, GayGod, also decided to give it a try, and claimed that he could detect flavors of soy sauce and orange juice.
