Natalie Portman “brought” snubbed female directors to the 92nd Annual Academy Awards with her in a fashionably empowering way.
To her Dior cape, the actress had the talents’ names beautifully embroidered in gold, taking a nod at Lulu Wang of The Farewell, Lorene Scafaria of Hustlers, Greta Gerwig of Little Women, Marielle Heller of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Melina Matsoukas of Queen & Slim, Alma Har’el of Honey Boy, Mati Diop of Atlantics, and Céline Sciamma Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
According to TIME, only male directors were nominated for the Best Director title for 2020. This year, Bong Joon-Ho clinched the award for his work for Parasite.
“I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way,” Portman told the Los Angeles Times reporter Amy Kaufman on the red carpet.
Her powerful gesture has moved fans, who have praised the star as “courageous” and “brave.”
