Mercedes-Benz will be launching the Weekender, its first-ever pop-up camper van in the US market. With inspiration from the brand’s Metris van, the new vehicle measures up to the length of a minivan with seating for five and sleeping space for four.
The front seats can be compressed to allow two passengers to sleep in, while the tent-like space extended from the roof can rest another two passengers.
Though the van has its own battery to power lights and devices, there are additional USB ports on its mini rooftop. The roof includes a foam mattress, as well.
The compact van provides cargo space when the back seats are moved back and forth on rails. The front seats can also be switched to face the back if you rotate them by 180 degrees to fashion a communal space after the vehicle is parked.
The Weekender is available with the option of a retractable kitchen in the rear and an awning, which can be rolled out for a makeshift shaded area outdoors. According to CNN, the camper van will be available in the spring with a starting price of US$70,000.
The Mercedes-Benz Metris Weekender makes its debut at the Chicago Auto Show as the company’s first U.S.-bound pop-up camper van. Luxuries of the vehicle include an elevating roof, a multipurpose rear bench seat, swiveling front seats, Off-Grid Power, and integrated solar panels. pic.twitter.com/z2vQXRIKwB
