In celebration of Photoshop’s 30th anniversary, Adobe has released updates to the photo-editing app on desktop as well as the iPad.
The company has added a couple of notable features for iPad users, who can now leverage a Sensei-powered tool: Object Selection. Object Selection relies on the combination of machine learning as well as Adobe’s Sensei AI system, which offers more granularity over your selection.
You can drag a region around the overall area instead of a single tap. The AI then selects the primary objects within the region. You can continue to remove or add other parts using the Lasso tool.
Another feature added to the iPad software it the Type Settings. This includes the type layer, character and options properties used for leading, scaling and formatting things like all/small caps and super/subscript. Adobe states that kerning will be added to the software later.
For desktop users, Adobe kicks off with improvements made to the Content-Aware fill. This allows users to make multiple selections and apply multiple fills without having to leave the Content-Aware Fill window. An “Apply” button has also been added, so you can see the results before you move on.
Adobe is also updating its Lens Blur took on desktop. It taps into GPU processing instead of CPU, which promises better quality images. It provides sharper edges and a much colorful bokeh.
Adobe has also made panning and zooming a much smoother and responsive process. These updates for Photoshop on iPad and desktop are rolling out now.
