Tesla’s boss Elon Musk always aims to push the brand forward, and his employees are bound with the same expectations, according to Tesla’s alleged staff handbook.
The four-page document called the The Anti-Handbook Handbook was obtained and released by Business Insider. In it, the internal memo describes Tesla’s progressive essence.
The starting bit sets the tone for the rest of the handbook with, “We’re Tesla. We’re changing the world. We’re willing to rethink everything.”
It echoes the importance of being different from the rest and to strive to do the impossible. It also emphasizes employees’ integrity in the company before warning, “If this isn’t you, you’ll be more successful somewhere else. We don’t mean to sound harsh, it’s just the truth.”
The document encourages employees to question, express concerns, and put their ideas forward, adding that it doesn’t matter whether it falls under their job scopes or not. Tesla even allows personnel to send emails to Musk himself, which the CEO personally confirmed not long ago.
The guide also claims to not be a typical employee handbook packed with the company’s policies and rules. Instead, it touches on key factors such as trust, punctuality, attendance, sick days and absence.
When it comes to the attendance policy, it poses caution on how if an employee isn’t reliable, they will have to leave the company. If you’re a no-show, Tesla calls you out on being a jerk.
In various sections labeled as “Stupid Stuff” and “Fun,” Tesla touches on how it does not entertain ludicrous things and affirms its employees to make sure they are having fun at work. The company also states the obvious: “If you aren’t having fun at some level, you’ll be unhappy. We don’t want that.”
