Now, you can remove yourself from your webcam in real-time without even leaving the frame, all thanks to Google web engineer Jason Mayes. Called ‘Disappearing People’, the program makes you invisible in live webcam sessions.
“This code attempts to learn over time the makeup of the background of a video, such that I can attempt to remove any humans from the scene,” Mayes explains on GitHub. “This is all happening in real-time, in the browser, using TensorFlow.”
Google-developed TensorFlow is an open source software library for machine learning and more.
The program basically scans the background, detects human features, and then copies the backdrop to overlay human subjects on camera.
When it identifies a person, it masks the character with sections of footage of an empty room captured from previous frames. This will allow you to sit before your camera while appearing invisible in a live stream.
