Michael Jordan gave an emotional eulogy during Kobe Bryant’s memorial service on Monday in Los Angeles. Despite the tear-jerking speech, Jordan managed to tug in a little joke, sparking a wave of laughter from the audience.
In tears, Jordan referenced the “Crying Jordan” meme, which became viral in the past decade. “Now, [Bryant’s] got me. I’m going to have to look at another crying meme…” the weeping Jordan joked.
He then spoke about his relationship with Bryant, describing that he saw the NBA star as a little brother. “When Kobe Bryant died, a piece of me died,” Jordan woefully concluded his speech.
The “Crying Jordan” meme originated from the time he cried during his Hall of Fame induction speech in 2009. His weeping face soon turned into an internet meme.
