Musician Akon was gifted with his very own city in Senegal in West Africa by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall back in January. The area is aptly named as Akon City.
“Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” Akon announced on Twitter.
The Lonely singer was originally born in Senegal before he moved to New Jersey, according to his website. The unique city will trade in AKoin, his own digital cash currency.
It can be accessed via a five-minute drive from the West African state’s international airport when it opens, per CNN. However, there hasn’t been any update on whether the city’s opening will be delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Akon’s latest initiative is his sustainable-driven project called Akon Lighting Africa, which aims to provide electricity in Africa through solar power energy.
