Baskin-Robbins Store Scoops Up Laughs After Making ‘Tiger King’ Joke On Sign

It’s not just Corona beer that’s being subjected to possible negative name associations. If you watched Netflix’s Tiger King, you’ll probably be reminded of Carole Baskin each time you pass by a Baskin-Robbins location.
A shop in Junction City, Kansas wants to put it out there that it has nothing to do with Joe Exotic’s hippie archrival. According to the franchise’s owner Peggy Heldstab, her son decided to put up a new “No Relation to Carole Baskin” sign to drive up sales during the COVID-19 pandemic and earn its stripes from the community.
The owner was not familiar with the hit docuseries, but greenlit the idea as her son had mentioned how Tiger King-related memes were cheering people up on the internet.
According to a report by TMZ, the move turned out to be a roaring success. The outlet’s takeout/DoorDash-only sales were double of those from the previous day, and social media users were clearly obsessed with the stunt.
Heldstab said drivers were even waving at her and honking in response to the joke.
For context, Carole Baskin, owner of nonprofit zoo Big Cat Rescue, agreed to be interviewed in the series to spread awareness about animal rights. However, viewers have been theorizing and joking if she had a hand in the disappearance of her second husband, Don Lewis, in 1997. Lewis was declared legally dead in 2002.
