NASA has released a breathtaking image of a vast star-forming region to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope.
Dubbed the “tapestry of blazing starbirth,” the photo brings together two beautiful nebulas—NGC2014 and NGC 2020. “In this Hubble portrait, the giant red nebula (NGC 2014) and its smaller blue neighbor (NGC 2020) are part of a vast star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, located 163,000 light-years away,” NASA explained.
The image has been nicknamed “Cosmic Reef,” as it resembles the undersea world.
In its 30-year mission, the Hubble Space Telescope has made 1.4 million observations and used in 17,000 peer-reviewed scientific research papers. “Unlike any space telescope before it, Hubble made astronomy relevant, engaging and accessible for people of all ages,” NASA said. ‘The space telescope’s iconic imagery has redefined out view of the universe and our place is time and space.”
