Nike is donating over 30,000 pairs of shoes designed especially for healthcare workers, as they will require comfort from standing day in and day out during the COVID-19 crisis in the US.
The company described the Air Zoom Pulse, released in 2019, as the “first shoe designed for the healthcare athlete, an everyday hero” in a statement on Monday.
Nike found that healthcare workers required comfortable shoes for long hours of shifts with materials that can withstand liquid spills after studying the profession at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
The company will donate an additional 2,500 pairs of shoes to hospitals across Europe, including Barcelona, Berlin, London, Milan, Paris and in Belgium. It will also offer 95,000 pairs of soccer socks providing mild compressions to healthcare workers in New York City and Los Angeles.
