Amid relentless Netflix binge-fests and unending scrolling on social media, Bill Gates has presented his annual summer reading list as a reminder that there are other ways to spend your time during self-isolation.
This year, the Microsoft cofounder presented five title recommendations that seem to be in response to feelings surrounding the pandemic. These comprise Dr Edith Eva Eger’s The Choice, David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, Bob Iger’s The Ride of a Lifetime, John M. Barry’s The Great Influenza, and Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo’s Good Economics for Hard Times.
In his blog post, Gates also noted additional books and television shows—“A Million Little Things, This Is Us, and Ozark”—to check out. He elaborated that during the lockdown, he also turned to one of his all-time favorite movies, Spy Game, which he said he must have watched a dozen times.
Gates explains his summer book recommendations in the following video. You can also preview the reading list below.
