MasterChef fans were appalled after an episode of MasterChef: Back to Win schooled them on the correct pronunciation of a famous instant noodle brand in Australia and Asia.
Many were scratching their heads when Maggi’s 10-second commercial aired during the show’s immunity challenge, and the voiceover pronounced the famous Maggi as “Madge-y.”
“Since when did everyone just collectively decide it was pronounced ‘Madge-y’ instead of ‘Mag-ee’?” one Twitter user asked. “Wait, what? I always pronounced Maggi with a hard G,” another said.
Some hardcore fans even refused to accept the pronunciation in the ad, writing, “No, the ad is pronouncing Maggi wrong. It’s a hard g, it’s not like magic.”
According to Maggi, the pronunciation of the brand depends on the country. In the US, the brand’s moniker is enunciated with a “hard g” like “magnet,” while in Australia, it is pronounced with a “soft d,” like “madgee.”
