A beauty influencer is catching heat for her latest beauty tutorial involving blackface.
The 16-year-old makeup influencer, who goes by @catharinas_beauty on TikTok, recently uploaded a tutorial claiming to promote “racial unity.” The clip, which has since been taken down, saw the teen applying dark-colored makeup on one side of her face and neck, along with Childish Gambino’s This Is America playing in the background.
The end result saw her face painted in black and white, with both colors separated by a melting pattern in the middle. The tutorial raised flak among social media users, including Washington Examiner’s Siraj Hashmi, who tweeted, “This TikTok just ended racism.”
“I’ve seen a lot of performative virtue-signaling done on social media in the last few days. This has to be, by far, one of the worst things I’ve seen,” he continued.
The beauty influencer swiftly released another video acknowledging the backlash. In German, she wrote, “I deleted the video and the picture, and I hope you can forgive me.” She added that she didn’t know what blackface was, and has issued multiple apologies ever since. “I only wanted to send a message against racism, but I did it wrong,” she said.
However, many social media users still voiced their frustrations over her video. One Instagram user wrote, “Everyone in this world who has access to internet knows about it.” Another chimed in, “I saw this on Twitter and had to see the aftereffect of this car crash.”

Really could have saved us a lot of trouble if she had done this a week ago.
