After a heap of scandals exposing Facebook’s possible mishandlings with privacy, perceptions for its trustworthiness have taken a beating.
For those considering quitting the social network but can’t bear to lose their connections, there’s now an alternative you can use to keep in touch with friends and loved ones without the burden of feeling like your privacy has been violated.
New social network ‘MeWe’, which describes itself as a “no BS,” “Anti-Facebook,” is an ad-free service that entails the industry’s first-ever Privacy Bill of Rights ensuring users full control over their data and privacy.
It was designed with input from Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web.

The Privacy Bill of Rights includes promises like giving members full explicit ownership of their personal information and content, as well as the absence of targeted ads. MeWe also reassures that facial recognition is not a thing on the platform, that it won’t manipulate newsfeeds, and that personal information will never be sold to anyone.
The social media app was developed after creators were “fed up with Facebook and Twitter because of their political bias, election interference and privacy violations,” according to Forbes. It pledges to be free of commercial or political bias and will not monitor user feeds.
The service’s in-house analysis boasts eight million existing subscribers, and projects a whopping 40 million users by the end of the year.
MeWe is available for both Android and iOS users.
