Banksy’s mural in honor of victims of the 2015 Paris attacks was stolen in 2019, and the six people behind the theft were recently detained in France.
The artwork was created by the elusive street artist on an emergency door of the Bataclan performance hall in 2018 in response to the attacks that killed 90, and depicted a young girl in mourning. It was then swiped in January last year, before resurfacing in a farmhouse in Italy earlier this month.
Euronews reports that six people were arrested during police operations across Isère, Haute-Savoie, Var, Rhône and Puy-de-Dôme.
The theft was caught on camera. Footage of the crime showed the culprits, hooded, making away with the mural by using an angle grinder to remove the door.
Officials have not disclosed the identities of the six people.
