Actress Naya Rivera’s body was recovered from Lake Piru, six days after her disappearance from a boat while swimming with her four-year-old son Josey.
Josey was discovered alone in the boat on 8 July 2020. Ventura County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the passing of Rivera and suggested that there could have been strong currents and that she managed to save her son on the boat.
Rivera was known for her role in Fox series Glee, where she played cheerleader and singer Santana Lopez.
Many of Rivera’s cast members mourned the loss on social media after hearing the news. Some of them also visited the lake, where her body was found, to remember the actress.
Chris Colfer, who played Kurt in Glee, wrote a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. “Her brilliance and humor were unmatched. Her beauty and talent were otherworldly. She spoke truth to power with poise and fearlessness,” the post read. "She could turn a bad day into a great day with a single remark.”
Another Glee cast member, Jenna Ushkowitz, also took to Instagram to honor Rivera. “I cannot believe I took for granted that you'd always be here,” she wrote in the post.
“Our friendship went in waves as life happens and we grow, so I will not look back and regret, but know I love you and promise to help the legacy of your talent, humor, light, and loyalty live on,” she added.
Lynch, who played Coach Sue Sylvester, wrote on Twitter, “Rest sweet, Naya. What a force you were. Love and peace to your family.” Sussman, who played Jacob, added, “Naya, you will be missed so much."
