KFC is set to work with Russian company 3D Bioprinting Solutions to create the “world’s first lab-made chicken nuggets.”
3D Bioprinting Solutions has developed a “additive bioprinting technology” that uses chicken cells and plant material to replicate the taste and texture of the meat while minimizing the use of animals in the process.
KFC, on the other hand, will be providing the bread, herbs and spices to ensure the lab chicken tastes just like its signature flavor. The chain hopes the lab-made chicken will be ready to launch in Moscow by fall 2020.
The lab-produced chicken is one of KFC’s eco-friendly solution, as it reduces the amount of resources needed to produce chicken nuggets, with 100 times less farm land and 25 times lesser greenhouse emissions.
The new move also promises a healthier alternative, as less chemicals are involved, while being more ethical since fewer animals will be harmed.
