Evian is sick of labels, but in a different way. The French mineral water company has completely redesigned its bottles to stand out even without wrappers in a stunning bid to cut down on single-use plastics.
Evidently, the new packaging is still plastic, but it is much less harmful. Made out of recycled plastic, it’s Evian’s first fully circular bottle, and is even topped with a recyclable pink cap as part of the brand’s commitment to be entirely circular by 2025.
The body of the 400ml bottle is produced with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), while the cap is created from a mix of virgin high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and oriented polypropylene (OPP).
The makeover proves that environmentally-friendly decisions don’t have to come hand-in-hand with “uglier” design choices. In fact, one might argue that the new bottles are even more stunning.
In place of using wrappers, Evian chose to emboss its logo on the new bottles. The full crystal-clear look strikes as more effective in positioning it as a premium bottled water brand.
The company’s vice president, Shweta Harit, shared in a statement via Dezeen that it took Evian “almost two years” to perfect the eco and “fully circular” packaging.
The new design will only apply to 400ml water bottles for now, though Evian plans to wholly switch to recycled plastic for its entire range by 2025. At present, the remaining bottles use about 40-percent recycled plastic.
The redesigned bottles are now being stocked by select hotels and eateries in France, being being rolled out in other countries, including Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, the UAE, and Vietnam, from September 2020.
