On the heels of toxic work environment allegations, Ellen DeGeneres wrote an apology letter to employees of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
There were around 10 former employees and one current employee who have come forward and accused three executives from the show—Ed Glavin, Mary Connelly, and Andy Lassner—of bullying, intimidation, and racism.
These allegations have spurred an internal investigation by WarnerMedia. In another statement, the studio stated that the investigation’s “primary findings” found some flaws in the program’s day-to-day management, per Time magazine.
Now, DeGeneres has publicly apologized to her staff members for the alleged ill treatment and for allowing them to feel unsafe during their time on the show.
“On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that The Ellen DeGeneres Show would be a place of happiness—no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect,” she wrote in the letter.
“Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case. For that, I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show,” she added.
DeGeneres detailed the show’s success and accolades before emphasizing that none of this would have been possible without her staff.
